VIVA COLEMAN FRANCIS! an epic poem by Damian Westfall
Viva Coleman Francis! is a narrative poem about three friends in the late 90's watching episodes of Mystery Science Theater 3000 as outside it rains and thunders. It's also a celebration of bad movies and what is more of Coleman Francis the worst film director of all time.
PART ONE is a prologue that tells the story of Moses as he ascends a Holy Mountain and finds a talking, burning bush.
PART TWO begins our primary story as three friends: Hamish Wilbur, Eliot and Jimmy try in vain to set up Hamish's VCR with his tv, but in the end achieve their goal and prepare to watch their favorite tv show.
PART THREE contains a monologue by Hamish Wilbur in which he lists all snack foods and beverages he has up in the kitchen, but unfortunately his friends aren't hungry. He asks if they'd like to have a cigarette before they begin and Eliot and Jimmy agree.
PART FOUR Hamish Wilbur, Eliot and Jimmy go out on Hamish's deck and smoke cigarettes and chitchat. It then begins to rain upon the merry friends. Eliot and Jimmy try to guess which MST3K episode Hamish has picked for them, but none of them can guess correctly.
PART FIVE Finally Hamish declares that they will be watching a trilogy, the Coleman Francis Trilogy of Beast of Yucca Flats, Skydivers and Red Zone Cuba. At first Eliot and Jimmy resist, but soon Hamish convinces them. They then discuss in what order they should watch the three film atrocities which leads to an argument over which Coleman Francis Film is worse Beast of Yucca Flats or Red Zone Cuba, which Hamish insists is Red Zone Cuba hands down. The three merry friends put out their cigarettes and go back in as the rain begins to pour.
PART SIX is a meditation and celebration of the worst filmmaker of all time Coleman Francis.
PART SEVEN Jimmy goes off to the bathroom while Hamish and Eliot go back to Hamish's room and talk. Jimmy joins them and they begin watching the Coleman Francis Trilogy all in MST3K episode forms.
